Smartphone-free Childhood Switzerland is not a political campaign. We are neither left nor right. We are a movement of parents for parents—with a wide variety of views, values, and political convictions. At the center is just one common question: “What kind of childhood do we want for our children? Is a tech-centric childhood desirable?” We are up against a powerful opponent in Big Tech, but we are facing them together. That is why our association focuses on networking instead of confrontation, and on dialogue instead of division. Our goal is to provide hope, not to stoke fear. Out of responsibility for our children, we are delaying access to personal devices.

The topic of digitalization is vast and not limited to smartphones. Our association focuses on smartphones because, as portable mini-computers, they provide access to a wide range of distractions through a single device—and these devices are usually used alone or unsupervised.

Beyond smartphones, there are the areas of social media (attention and unhealthy perfectionism instead of healthy development), education technology (which primarily optimizes data and engagement), and artificial intelligence (personalization and attachment without maturity).
